Envisioning the Eucharist
Transcending the Literal in Medieval and Byzantine Art
Conference organized by the Association of Scholars of Christianity in
the History of Art (ASCHA)
Price Auditorium
The Art Institute of Chicago
111 South Michigan Avenue
Chicago, IL
The symposium examines the assertion that Medieval and Byzantine art
functioned not as a mere supplement to or reduction of advanced
theological concepts, but as theology in its own right, and features new
scholarship exploring how developing Eucharistic doctrine was
translated—and transformed—visually.
The symposium is co-organized by Matt Milliner and James Romaine and is
free with museum admission, though advance registration is requested.
