Call for Papers:
Intellectual Networks: Art and Politics in Latin America (CAA 2014)

Session at the College Art Association Conference, Chicago

Session chairs: Maria Clara Bernal, Universidad de Los Andes, Bogotá
mariaclara.bernalgmail.com; Pilar García, MUAC Mexico,
pilar.garciamuac.unam.com

This panel aims to explore the way in which aesthetic became a common
ground of discussion amongst strong diverting political and ideological
positions in Latin America in the past century. The exchanges between
artists, art critics and historians created a network of discussion
where subjects like Latinoamericanismo and Internationalism came to the
fore.

We would like to invite specially but not exclusively papers on one of
the following lines of research on twentieth century Latin American art:
Polemic nodes (cultural and art magazines, meetings, editorial projects
etc); Polyphonic territories and platforms of representation
(exhibitions, biennials, etc.); Revolutionary and counterrevolutionary
patterns; Institutions and macro-politics, Continental trajectories and
dialogs.

Please submit: 1 page abstract, letter of interest, and CV to:
mariaclara.bernalgmail.com and pilar.garciamuac.unam.com
