Informal Artist Groups and Institutional Academies of Art

Proposals are invited for sessions at RSA in 2014 in NYC focusing on the
involvement of visual artists with informal art groups and official art
academies during the Early Modern period in Europe. We are seeking a
variety of studies on topics that may address the desire for
professional solidarity and promotion of the visual arts, the goals of
corporate organization and founding tenants, institutional lectures and
instruction, sponsorship and fundraising, responsibilities of
membership, the construction of group identity and creation of insignia,
public celebrations and ceremony, and collaboration of members and group
commissions.

Please send a 150-word abstract with a list of keywords and a one-page
CV (max. 300 words) to both organizers by May 20, 2013: Tamara Smithers
