Call for Papers:
Art, Architecture, and the Artist in Renaissance Venice
(session series)
A number of recent studies have enriched and complicated the field of
Venetian Renaissance art and architecture, illuminating subjects such
as non-noble patronage and collecting, music and architecture,
artistic rivalries, the Man of Sorrows, and immigration and
multiculturalism. We invite papers that expand upon these approaches
to Venice's visual heritage or that explore fresh avenues of research.
A series of sessions is planned, each with a theme drawn from the
submitted abstracts, which might include but not be limited to:
Mediterranean Identities; Materials and Techniques; Interdisciplinary
Approaches; Sculpture; Collecting; and the Artist's Workshop. A final
roundtable panel composed of senior scholars of Venetian Renaissance
art will consider promising directions for the field, particularly in
relation to the broader areas of Renaissance Art History and
Mediterranean Studies.
Please send a brief abstract (300-word maximum) and a CV to
venice.rsagmail.com or to one of the organizers: Daniel Wallace Maze
(danielwallacemazegmail.com), Susan Nalezyty
(susan.naleztytygmail.com), and Susannah Rutherglen
(srutherggmail.com).
