DEADLINE:
Friday, December 5, 2025.

Columbia University (www.columbia.edu) has a distinguished legacy of knowledge, discovery and scholarly innovation in multiple disciplines. As an independent institute, the Italian Academy sponsors a prestigious Fellowship Program, especially renowned for advancing knowledge and learning in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences.

We invite applications from exceptional scholars from all countries. Application materials include a CV with a full list of publications, a copy of the PhD degree, a research proposal not exceeding 1300 words, and three letters of recommendation. We particularly encourage applications from early career scholars with a PhD within the last three years. Only a very limited number of fellowships are available for senior level scholars. We cannot consider applications from former Italian Academy Fellows nor from current Columbia faculty.

Apply by December 5 for a Fellowship in 2026–27 by using the digital online form: tinyurl.com/4rykuynn

All candidates are expected to identify in their research proposal the faculty member(s) in the Columbia departments closest to their discipline with whom they will collaborate while Fellows of the Academy.

In addition to regular fellowships, we offer sponsored fellowships from the Gerda Henkel Foundation (in the History of Art) and from the Alexander Bodini Foundation (in Developmental and Adolescent Psychiatry and in the Application of AI Tools and Models in the Early Detection of Pancreatic Cancer).

Candidates may apply for three fellowship periods: Fall 2026 (September 15, 2026–December 31, 2026), Spring 2027 (January 15, 2027–April 30, 2027), or a full year/12 months in 2026–2027 (September 15, 2026–September 14, 2027). The option of the full-year period applies only to early career applicants—if offered, the fellowship may be renewable for up to a total period of 3 years, depending on funding, satisfactory progress with the research project, performance of all duties, and continued work eligibility.

If offered a fellowship, winners will receive a position as a full-time Columbia Officer of Research with a minimum annual salary in the following range:
