You are warmly invited to a two-day academic event consisting of a farewell lecture by Prof. Dr. Monica Juneja and a symposium “Looking Beyond, Looking Ahead: Future Directions for Transcultural Art History”, both taking place on the occasion of Monica Juneja’s retirement from the Professorship of Global Art History at Heidelberg Centre of Transcultural Studies (HCTS / Heidelberg University).
On 31 January 2024, 12 pm c.t., the official farewell lecture of Prof. Juneja will take place in the Alte Aula of Heidelberg University (only on site). The lecture will be introduced by opening words by Prof Dr Hans Martin Krämer (Dean of the Philosophical Faculty) and Prof Dr Joachim Kurtz (Director of the HCTS) as well as a laudatory address by Prof em. Dr Claire Farago (University of Boulder Colorado). A reception at the Bel Etage of the Alte Universität will conclude this first day.
On the second day, 01 February 2024, 9:30 am - 5:30 pm, the symposium “Looking Beyond, Looking Ahead: Future Directions for Transcultural Art History” will take place at HCTS and will be streamed online (https://bit.ly/LookingBeyondLookingAhead). The symposium gathers junior and senior speakers from Heidelberg University and abroad who bring Monica Juneja’s encompassing scholarship on transcultural art history in dialogue with heritage and museum studies, materiality and artisanal epistemologies, and ecology and gender studies.
