Sacred and Profane in the Early Modern Spanish World

To expand on the themes of the upcoming exhibition "Sacred Spain: Art
and Belief in the Spanish World" (October 11, 2009-January 3, 2010), the
Indianapolis Museum of Art has partnered with Indiana University to host
a two-day symposium devoted to related topics. Held on October 16 and
17, "Sacred and Profane in the Early Modern Spanish World" is an
inter-disciplinary conference centered on religious belief and its
representation in the art, literature, religion, politics, and history
of Spain and Spanish America in the 16th and 17th centuries. A visit to
the exhibition and a musical performance are included. Transportation
between venues will be provided. Registration required and includes
attendance to both days.
