The First Triennial Conference of the Association for Latin American Art
will be held 26-27 October, 2007, at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York
University. The conference aims to initiate an interdisciplinary discourse
that will highlight current developments within the field of Latin
American Studies and offer possible models for the discipline’s future.
Our discussion will be focused on the theme „Open Dialogues“ which will
explore issues of viewer engagement. Twelve speakers will be divided into
three panels that reflect the main research areas of the association’s
members: Pre-Columbian; Colonial/Viceregal; and Modern/Contemporary.
Papers will analyze the effects of pictorial and structural language and
investigate how art engages the politics, ideologies and expectations of
its audience.
