The Faculty of Arts, Department of Art & Culture, Art History chair group,
has a vacancy for a
professor of Modern Art History.

The Faculty of Arts is made up of five departments. The Department of Art &
Culture is responsible
for the degree courses in Art History and Cultural Studies, and consists of
five chair groups:
Modern Art History, Cultural Studies, Architectural History & Heritage
Studies and Early Modern Art
History. Modern Art History is one of the leading groups in its field in the
Netherlands. This
position is available from June 1st 2007.

Duties

The successful candidate will:

* be familiar with recent international developments in the field of
the visual arts;

* be familiar with art theory and notions of artistry, with the
theory and practice of art
criticism, with the art market, with the art media, with museum policy and with
the world of collecting;

* have good contacts with museums in the Netherlands and abroad;

* be prepared to adopt an innovative policy designed to give the
Department of Art &
Culture a clear profile and to intensify the internationalisation of its
teaching and research;

* be expected to take the initiative in reforming the education
provided by the faculty,
at both BA and MA levels.

Requirements

The successful candidate will:

* hold a doctorate in Art History or a closely related subject;

* have an excellent research reputation, as demonstrated by a
substantial portfolio of
high-quality academic publications;

* be a dedicated and inspiring teacher, as demonstrated by positive
educational evaluations;

* combine methodological depth with an open attitude towards and
experience with the art
history profession;

* have an international orientation, as demonstrated by participation
in international
research projects and networks. Ideally, the new professor's research work will
be internationally
comparative in its approach;

* have an interdisciplinary orientation, as demonstrated by a
readiness to work closely
with the other chair groups in the Department of Art & Culture and with
other groups within and
beyond the Faculty of Arts;

* possess demonstrable managerial experience and inspiring leadership
qualities;

* have proven success in attracting indirect and contract funding;

* have experience in supervising PhD students.

Appointment

The initial appointment will be for a period of two years. After that, there is
the possibility of a

Salary

The maximum gross monthly salary for this position (scale H2) is EUR 6.841,
based upon a full-time
appointment.
