Fashion Atmospheres. Aesthetics and practices in the Afropolis
Conference by the DFG-Research Group “Fashion and Styles in African Cities”

This one-day symposium evolves from the DFG research project “Fashion and Styles in African Cities” and reflects on the relationships between fashion and the city. It proposes to trace and compare the specific matrix of cities like Lagos, Douala and Dakar for fashion production. In doing so, we explore on the one hand, how the cities’ specific histories, visual and material cultures as well as atmospheres shape and inspire fashion making; on the other hand, we delve into the impact of fashion itself on the urban environment.
