The Centre for Research in the Humanities, Music and Performing Arts
(HuMPA) at Plymouth University will award two MPhil/PhD studentships to
commence in October 2014 in the following disciplinary areas: Art
History, Dance, History and Theatre & Performance. The awards comprise
Home/EU tuition fees and a stipend for 3 years.
Please visit
http://www1.plymouth.ac.uk/research/humpa/Pages/default.aspx for further
details of our research expertise in each of the disciplines of HuMPA
(including an academic contact).
The studentships will be awarded on the basis of: the strength of
applicant's academic profile as demonstrated through previous study
and/or a body of practice; the quality, invention and viability of the
research proposal; the match of research proposal to the profile,
supervisory expertise, resources and environment of HuMPA.
Eligibility:
You must hold, or be in the process of completing by September 2014, a
relevant qualification at master's level. Applications from students
already enrolled on an MPhil/PhD programme are not eligible.
All applicants will need to satisfy the English Language level
requirements of the Graduate School. Overseas applicants must
successfully apply for a Tier 4 visa once an unconditional offer has
been received.
Funding Notes:
The studentship will pay for fees (at Home/EU student rate only, £4,050
in 2014/15) and provides an annual stipend of £13,863 (2014/15 rate) per
annum for three years.
Applications from overseas candidates are welcomed, but only UK/EU
nationals who have been ordinarily resident in the EU for the previous 3
years will be automatically eligible for full fees. Overseas students
must fund the difference in fees (~£9,950) between Overseas rate
(£14,000 in 2014/15) and Home/EU rate. This may be funded from their
stipend, but applicants must also provide evidence that they have
additional funding (minimum £6,000 per annum) in place to support
themselves for living costs. This can include additional sponsorship,
savings or evidence of regular income from other sources, e.g. property
or a benefactor. This evidence must be provided at the application
stage.
