Jewish Architecture – New Sources and Approaches
April 1–3, 2014, TU Braunschweig

Organized by the Bet Tfila – Research Unit for Jewish Architecture in
Europe at the Technische Universität Braunschweig & the Center for
Jewish Art, Hebrew University of Jerusalem

Bet Tfila – Research Unit for Jewish Architecture in Europe organizes
its second international conference "Jewish Architecture – New Sources
and Approaches" in order to discuss the effective and upcoming handling
of “Jewish architecture” as part of the Jewish visual heritage. The
conference will take place at the TU Braunschweig (Germany), more than
30 referents from Austria, Brazil, Canada, Finland, Germany, Israel,
Romania, the Slovak Republic and the USA will participate.

On the basis of primary sources and case studies, the tangible
evidence of Jewish architecture in Germany and Europe will be
revealed, analyzed, and placed in contrast to generic European
architecture. Current activities reveal the urgency of this
discussion, in which scholars of various scientific disciplines will
present the state of their research as well as new work techniques and
methods. The conference will emphasize the documentation and
preservation of Jewish monuments and sites as well as their
integration and transformation into museums. The conference program is
available at http://www.bet-tfila.org.

To enable young scientists to present their recent research activities
and to search for new research partners, the conference will include a
poster presentation (max. size A0, upright format). A limited number
of travel grants of max. 100 Euro is available for young scientists
whose poster is accepted. Posters can also be sent to the organizers.

Please submit an abstract (max. half page A4) of your poster by March,
14, 2014 at infobet-tfila.org. (Decision will be made by March, 17.)
