Inspirations - Interactions: Pictorialism Reconsidered /
Inspirationen - Interaktionen: Kunstfotografie um 1900 neu betrachtet
Pictorialism may be considered one of the most multifaceted chapters in
the history of photography. Internationally networked and in dialogue
with painting, ambitious amateurs emerged on the scene in the 1880s with
the goal of gaining recognition for photography as art.
The symposium will examine anew the Pictorialist movement from today's
perspective with the Kunstbibliothek's Juhl Collection as its starting
point. Renowned historians of photography and museum curators have been
invited to discuss Pictorialism as the first internationally networked
art photography movement. (The conference will be held in English.)
