Nonhuman Agency in the Premodern Image – Ecocritical Perspectives.

What kind of agency do plants, animals, elements, and other nonhuman entities hold within images and what does it mean to attribute this to them?

The workshop will be held on-site at the Department of Art History and Musicology, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz on January 29 and 30, 2026. The lectures will be held either in English or in German. Free and open to the public, subject to capacity.
