EXHIBITION POLITICS. HEFT NR. / ISSUE NO. 138, JUNI / JUNE 2025:

Durch die direkten und indirekten Einflussnahmen von der Politik wird deutlich, dass Ausstellungen eine inhärent politische Dimension haben. Die Ausgabe „Exhibition Politics“ zeigt die oft gegenläufigen Interessen auf, die im Ausstellungsbetrieb aufeinanderprallen, und analysiert, wie insbesondere Institutionen mit symbol- und realpolitischen Handlungen auf die sich zuspitzende Lage reagieren. Der doppelte Fokus liegt dabei einerseits auf den visuellen Regimen und Ein- und Ausschlussmechanismen, die sich innerhalb des Ausstellungsraums manifestieren, sowie andererseits auf den konkreten Debatten über Kulturkürzungen und die Frage, wie Aspekte des Israel-Palästina-Konflikts nach dem 7. Oktober im Ausstellungsraum adressiert werden können.

The direct and indirect influence of politics is making it increasingly clear that exhibitions have an inherent political dimension. This “Exhibition Politics” issue reveals the often conflicting interests that collide in the exhibition space and analyzes how institutions in particular react to an increasingly intense situation with symbolic and real political actions. Its dual focus examines, on the one hand, the visual regimes and mechanisms of inclusion and exclusion that manifest themselves within the exhibition space and, on the other hand, the concrete debates about culture cuts and the question of how aspects of the Israel-Palestine conflict can be addressed in the exhibition space in the wake of October 7th.
