The Department of Prof. Dr. Tristan Weddigen at the Bibliotheca Hertziana – Max Planck Institute for Art History in Rome is pleased to offer
Predoctoral and Postdoctoral Fellowships for the 2025/26 academic year.
Under the overarching theme of Art of the Modern Age in a Global Context, the Department welcomes projects in any period addressing — but not limited to — one of its five Research Priorities: Rome Contemporary, Materiality and Mediality, Italy in a Global Context, Transnational History of Art History, and Digital Visual Studies. Applicants should be at an early stage in their career and can propose a funding period of three to twelve months. Successful candidates will be part of a group of junior scholars related to one of the five topics and are expected to actively participate in the Department’s activities.

Online interviews will take place in mid-March. The earliest start date is in September 15, 2025; contracts must end before September 15, 2026. In addition to providing personal information on the application platform, candidates must upload separate PDF files containing:
- curriculum vitae;
- list of publications;
- description of the research project including a bibliography;
- research timeline;
- contact information of two potential referees (no letters of recommendation).
