Colloque international en hommage à Walter Melion,
sous la direction de Michel Weemans (Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne) et Ralph Dekoninck (UCLouvain)

Walter Melion, Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Art History, Emory University; Président de HNA (Historians of Netherlandish Art), Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences et de la Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, sera professeur invité à l’Université de Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne du 11 au 15 mars 2024.
Il donnera dans ce cadre une série de conférences.

À cette occasion, un colloque international sera organisé en son honneur le vendredi 15 mars 2024. Il réunira des collègues, amis et collaborateurs de longue date de Walter Melion qui rendront hommage à l’apport essentiel de cet historien de l’art majeur. Les communications se concentreront sur ses sujets de prédilection : la théorie de l’art et de l’image aux Pays-Bas à l’époque de la première modernité, la dimension réflexive des œuvres, la fonction dévotionnelle et méditative de l’art religieux, les considérations théologiques (Incarnation, Dévotion eucharistique, catéchèse, …). Ce colloque inclura la présentation sous la forme de tables-rondes de trois publications récentes :
