Am Kunstgeschichtlichen Institut der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main ist zum nächstmöglichen Zeitpunkt an der Professur für Kunstgeschichte mit Schwerpunkt Renaissance (Prof. Dr. Hans Aurenhammer) die Stelle für eine:n

(E 13 TV-G-U, 65%-Teilzeit)

befristet bis zum 31.12.2023 zu besetzen. Die Eingruppierung richtet sich nach den Tätigkeitsmerkmalen des für die Goethe-Universität geltenden Tarifvertrages (TV-G-U).

Die ausgeschriebene Stelle ist dem LOEWE-Schwerpunkt „Architekturen des Ordnens: Praktiken und Diskurse zwischen Entwerfen und Wissen“ zugeordnet. Der für vier Jahre (2020-2023) ausgelegte Forschungsschwerpunkt wird durch die Hessische Landesoffensive zur Entwicklung wissenschaftlich-ökonomischer Exzellenz (LOEWE) gefördert. Beteiligte Partner sind die Goethe-Universität in Frankfurt am Main, die Technische Universität Darmstadt und das Max-Planck-Institut für europäische Rechtsgeschichte. Der Forschungsschwerpunkt beschäftigt sich mit der Bedeutung von Ordnungstechniken in den Praktiken der Architektur und nimmt die Relevanz architektonischen Denkens in gesellschaftlichen Diskursen über Ordnung in den Blick. Entsprechend fragt er nach der Hervorbringung von Ordnungen durch Architektur sowie nach der Bedeutung der Architektur für nichtarchitektonische Ordnungsnarrative. Dazu bündelt der Schwerpunkt architektur-, geschichts-, kultur- und medienwissenschaftliche, soziologische und entwurfstheoretische Kompetenzen und bindet die architektonische Entwurfs- und Medienpraxis mit ein.

Im Rahmen des Schwerpunkts gehört die Stelle zum Teilprojekt „Ordnungen des Wissens und der architekturtheoretische Diskurs der Frühen Neuzeit“ (Prof. Dr. Hans Aurenhammer). Zu den Aufgaben gehören:
- Weiterentwicklung eines Promotionsvorhabens im Rahmen des Teilprojekts
- Entsprechend der Thematik des Teilprojekts soll sich das Projekt mit dem Verhältnis zwischen dem architekturtheoretischen Diskurs seit der Renaissance und den Verwissenschaftlichungsprozessen in der Frühen Neuzeit beschäftigen. Zum einen verstand sich Architektur enzyklopädisch, als eine universale Ordnung des Wissens ebenso wie der sozialen Praxis, auf der anderen Seite wurden die kosmologisch-naturphilosophischen Grundlagen dieses Anspruchs zunehmend durch die neuen Wissenschaften in Frage gestellt. Das Thema der Promotion kann aus dem Zeitraum vom 15. bis zum 19. Jahrhundert gewählt sein
- aktive Mitarbeit am LOEWE-Schwerpunkt „Architekturen des Ordnens“ (u. a. Teilnahme an Workshops und Tagungen, Mitarbeit an der Konzeption und Durchführung einer Ringvorlesung sowie von Symposien).

Vorausgesetzt werden:
- ein abgeschlossenes wissenschaftliches Hochschulstudium (Master oder äquivalent) der Kunstgeschichte oder eines anderen für das Dissertationsprojekt ausreichend qualifizierenden kultur- oder geisteswissenschaftlichen Faches
- ausgewiesenes Interesse an der Geschichte der Architektur- und Kunsttheorie sowie an interdisziplinären kulturwissenschaftlichen und diskursgeschichtlichen Fragestellungen
- gute Kenntnisse des Englischen und der Sprache(n) der für die Dissertation relevanten Texte der Architekturtheorie. Mindestens passive Deutschkenntnisse

starting as soon as possible. The position is limited until 31.12.2023. The salary grade is based on the job characteristics of the collective agreement applicable to Goethe University (TV-G-U).

The advertised position is part of the LOEWE project "Architectures of Order: Practices and Discourses between Design and Knowledge". The four-year research focus (2020-2023) is supported by the Hessian State Initiative for the Development of Scientific and Economic Excellence, with the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main, the Technical University of Darmstadt and the Max Planck Institute for European Legal History participating as partners. "Architectures of Order" refers to the importance of order techniques in architectural practices and focuses on the relevance of architectural thought in social discourses. The project takes this context into account by understanding architecture as a cultural ordering practice that operates at the interfaces of control, knowledge, design and subjectivation. It asks, first, about the creation of order through architecture, second, about the significance of architecture for non-architectural order narratives, and third, about the interaction between the two spheres. The project bundles competences in architectural history, history, cultural and media studies, sociology and design theory and integrates architectural design and media practice.

The research assistant will be expected to:
- continue a dissertation project within the research area
- In keeping with the theme addressed by the sub-project, the dissertation should revolve around the relationship between architecture theory discourse since the Renaissance and processes of scientization in the Early Modern period. Architecture was conceived of, on the one hand, as encyclopaedic, as a universal order of knowledge and of social practice. On the other hand, the newly emerging sciences increasingly disputed the cosmological, natural-philosophical foundations of this claim. The topic of the dissertation can be chosen from the period from the 15th to the 19th century
- active involvement in the LOEWE project “Architectures of Order” (including participation in workshops and conferences as well as assistance in the planning and realization of a lecture series and joint symposia)

Requirements for this position are:
- a completed master’s degree(or equal) in art or architectural history or another field of the humanities sufficiently qualified for the dissertation project
- a declared interest in the history of architecture and art theory as well as in interdisciplinary issues in the fields of cultural studies and studies in the history of discourse
- a good knowledge of English and the language(s) of the texts of architectural theory relevant to the dissertation; at least passive German language skills
