THE MANIFOLD (AFTER)LIVES OF PERFORMANCE (II)
fri 12 nov 10 . 14:00-18:00
STUK arts centre, Leuven, Belgium
While a "performance" was traditionally a one-time live event,
today, performance artists are using a variety of forms to
present their work. More and more, the work put into a
performance might include such things as a script for remakes,
personal archives, scenarios for events, ideas or texts that
have an inspiring effect as in a work of art...
Last year, STUK and De Appel worked together for the first
time to organise a double symposium exploring this theme and
several case studies. Whilst the focus in 2009 was on artistic
practice, this year it will be on how organisations and
institutions go about collecting, documenting and restaging
live performances. In both afternoon sessions, this will be
done through case studies and a wide debate.
The workshop at STUK opens with a talk by Sven Lütticken
(German/Dutch) and will be followed by presentations, among
others, by Jenny Schlenzka (MOMA New York) who will focus on
the role of performance within the collection policy of the
Museum of Modern Art, and Marie de Brugerolle (French) who
has immersed herself in the study of the oeuvre and archives
of Guy de Cointet, filmed a documentary on the subject and
assists with the restaging of his performances.
