American Art

Dear Reader,

We want to draw your attention to the Fall 2008 issue of American Art,
published by the University of Chicago Press on behalf of the
Smithsonian American Art Museum.

American Arthas been an indispensable resource for curators, scholars,
and collectors since 1987 -- it is your window to a richer understanding
of America's art and culture. But you already know all this. What you
might not be aware of is the Fall 2008 issue.

As a foreign scholar working outside of North America, we think you will
find this issue especially interesting because it looks at American art
from the outside in. Veerle Thielemans, John Fagg, Michael Leja, David
Lubin, Ortrud Westheider, John Davis, and Olivier Meslay offer
commentary, three feature articles present in-depth views of individual
artists from a global perspective, and the research notes and book
trends offer fresh views and reviews of American art as seen from
abroad. How have current perspectives changed? Is American art
geographically confined? You will have to read this issue to find the
answers.

American Art is one of the best places to discover what's going on in
your field, and is an invaluable resource for Americanists abroad.
