Artistes et partis dans la première moitié du Vingtième siècle en Europe

Numéro thématiaque de la revue « Memoria e Ricerca », sous la
direction de Maddalena Carli (chercheur en Histoire contemporaine,
Université de Teramo) et de Maria Stavrinaki (maître de conférence en
Histoire de l'art contemporain, Paris I - Panthéon Sorbonne)

La revendication d'autonomie par l'artiste moderne s'est souvent
manifestée par l'affirmation de son droit, voire de son devoir de
transgression des normes. Cette posture, d'inspiration anarchiste mais
s'inscrivant généralement aux plans esthétique et ontologique plutôt
qu'au plan politique, fut cependant hostile aux structures des partis
politiques et, souvent, à la démocratie parlementaire. Elle n'en a pas
moins été ébranlée par la nationalisation des masses inaugurée durant
la Grande Guerre.
Face à des mouvements, à des syndicats, à des partis parlementaires,
réformistes, révolutionnaires ou contre-révolutionnaires, voire face à
des partis uniques qui, tous, avaient l'ambition de changer la vie,
les artistes mus par leur propre volonté de former la vie par l'art
ont dû se déterminer. Il en est résulté une tension entre l'artiste et
le parti politique qui, à bien des égards, devrait permettre
d'examiner sous un nouveau jour la « crise de la démocratie » de
l'entre-deux-guerres. Le paysage historique de cette période montre
une multiplicité de rapports entre les artistes et les partis :
formation de structures alternatives (communautés, loges, etc.),
fondation de partis artistiques (parti futuriste ou, plus
ironiquement, le parti Merz), intégration des artistes aux partis - de
l'engagement à la négociation -, uniques ou non. Le numéro thématique
de la revue d'histoire Memoria e Ricerca se propose d'examiner les
différents cas de figures de l'interaction (antagonisme et/ou
négociation) entre les artistes et les partis dans les démocraties
libérales et les régimes totalitaires. Le numéro paraîtra en janvier
2010 et les textes devront être soumis en juillet 2009. La revue
Memoria e Ricerca assurera la traduction en italien. Les textes ne
devront pas dépasser les 50000 signes. Les propositions peuvent être
envoyés à Maddalena Carli (madcarlitiscali.it) et à Maria Stavrinaki
(maria.stravrinakifree.fr
) d'ici le 15 Juin 2008.

Artists and Parties in the First Half of the 20th Century in Europe

Thematic issue of the journal of contemporary history "Memoria and
Ricerca", editors: Maddalena Carli (Researcher in Contemporary
History, University of Teramo) and Maria Stavrinaki (Associate
Professor, History of Contemporary Art, Paris I - Panthéon - Sorbonne).

The revendication of autonomy by the modern artist has taken often the
form of the affirmation of his right and even of his obligation to
transgress norms. This stance, inspired by anarchy, but generaly lying
on the the esthetic and ontological plane rather than on the political
one, has been though hostile to the structures of political parties
and, often, to parlementary democracy. Still, this stance has not been
shaken by the nationalisation of the masses inaugurated during the
Great War. Artists, driven by their own will to form life by art, had
to determine their attitude towards movements, syndicates,
parlementary parties, reformist parties, revolutionary or counter-
revolutionary ones, even towards unique parties which had also the
ambition to change life. The result has often been a tension between
the artist and the political party, which, in many respects, should
allow a new examination of the « crisis of democracy » during the
interwar years. The historical landscape of the period shows a
multiplicity of relations between artists and parties : such as the
formation of alternative structures (communities, lodges, etc.), the
foundation of artistic parties (futurism or, more ironically, the Merz
party), the integration of artists to parties (unique or not) - from
engagement to negociation. The thematic issue of the review Memoria e
Ricerca proposes to examine the different cases of interaction
(antagonism and/or negociation) between artists and parties in liberal
democracy or in totalitarian regime. The issue will be published in
January 2010 and the texts should be written until July 2009 (they
should not exceed 50000 signes). Propositions can be sent to Maddalena
Carli (madcarlitiscali.it) and to Maria Stavrinaki (maria.stravrinakifree.fr
) until the 15th of Juin 2008.
