RCUK Academic Fellowship
Department of Art History and Theory
Applications are invited for this Academic Fellowship established as a
result of the Roberts Review "SET for Success" and aimed at providing
contract research staff with more attractive and stable paths into
permanent academic positions. See http://www.rcuk.ac.uk/acfellow/ for
further details of the scheme.
Applicants should have sufficient postdoctoral (or equivalent) experience
to demonstrate their outstanding research potential in fields cognate to

The fellowship will be held in the lively and internationally
distinguished Department of Art History and Theory, rated ‘5' in the last
RAE, in the field of nineteenth-century French art and theory. Applicants
should hold a PhD in Art History or a related specialism. Likely teaching
areas are MA modules based on the successful candidate's research
interests, and a new honours level undergraduate course in the area of the
nineteenth-century French art.
Although these posts are fully funded, the nature of the funding provided
by the RCUK means that those currently holding a personal research
fellowship or research grant are eligible to apply. Individuals who
already hold a permanent position are not eligible to apply.
Appointment to this post, from 1 October 2007, is for a period of 5 years
after which the University will guarantee a permanent academic position,
subject to the successful completion of a probationary period and the
appointee meeting the University criteria for appointment to an academic
post. Salary will be on the scale £26,666-£31,840 annum depending on
