Curatorial Fellowship Program at the Harvard University Art Museums

The Curatorial Fellowship Program at the Harvard University Art Museums is
designed to broaden the experience of persons embarking on professional
and scholarly careers in art history who are considering the museum
profession. The Fellow shares fully in the range of curatorial activities
including acquisitions, storage and documentation of the permanent
collection, and in answering scholarly inquiries and general
correspondence. The Fellow also undertakes an independent,
collections-related project, under the supervision of the curator. The
Harvard University Art Museums, with the Straus Center for Conservation
and Technical Studies, is a major center for art historical research and
training. Fellows engage in close study and analysis of objects and their
institutional frameworks, as well as broader issues of museum practice and
museology. A weekly seminar with

fellows and graduate student interns is provided.

The Fogg Art Museum offers a 10-month, academic year fellowship. The
Busch-Reisinger Museum offers a 22-month fellowship (Note: the Michalke
Curatorial Fellowship is restricted to European nationals.)

TheodoreRousseau Curatorial Fellowship

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

Demonstrated interest in the work of art museums and scholarship related
to the department of specialization; M.A. or Ph.D. past qualifying paper
preferred; Excellent written and verbal communications skills; competence
in foreign language(s) related to collection focus strongly preferred;
familiarity with use of databases preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Competitive stipend ($1,200 bi-weekly) and a travel/research allowance
provided. Fellowships are eligible for Harvard’s

University resources. Reciprocal free admission to museums throughout the
region is also available.

Baird Fellowship
Upon completion of internship, fellows will be eligible to apply for the
Baird Travel Research award. Baird fellowships are competitive, based on a
proposed project requiring travel for research. The Baird Fellowship
provides for return to Harvard within two years to lecture on his/her
research results.

Curatorial Fellowship Selection Schedule

December 15, 2006:Deadline for receipt of application materials for all
fellowships
January - February, 2007: Application review & interviews with selected
candidates.
March- April 2007: Notification of fellowship selection
Fellowship Term: September 2007 through June 2008 (Michalke Fellowship,
through June 2009)
