Das Zentrum fuer Bildwissenschaften der Donau-Universitaet Krems hat
unter neuer Leitung sein Studienangebot durch neue Masterkurse erweitert
und auf modular konzipierte und individuell kombinierbare Lehreinheiten
ausgerichtet.

Auch an der Praxis orientiert wurden Core-Elemente der
bildwissenschaftlichen Ausbildung definiert und als universitaere
Kurzlehrgaenge (Certified Programs) entwickelt. Die Studierenden des
Zentrums fuer Bildwissenschaften koennen verschiedene Kurzlehrgaenge und
vertiefende Fachmodule frei kombinieren und sich so ein
Experten-Programm (1 Jahr) oder ein Master-Programm (2 Jahre), auf ihre
Lernbeduerfnisse abgestimmt, individuell zusammenstellen.

Die einzelnen Certified Programs setzen sich mit aktuellen Ergebnissen
bildbezogener Fragestellungen aus Forschung und Praxis auseinander - von
historischen Kunstmedien bis zu digitalen Bildwelten aus Wissenschaft,
Kunst und Popularkultur. Ziel ist die Ausbildung von SpezialistInnen,
die ueber Know-How fuer die professionelle Erschliessung, Vermittlung
und Verwaltung von visuellem Material verfuegen.

Fundiertes Kunst- und Bildwissen und Erfahrung mit elektronischer
Bilderschliessung bilden dabei eine Grundlage fuer Erfolg in
verschiedensten Berufssparten.

=> BILDMANAGEMENT, MA

Renommierte ExpertInnen vermitteln Fachwissen fuer den Umgang mit
Bildmedien analog wie digital. Von der Grafik ueber die analoge
Fotografie, von DigiPrints und digitalen Traegern bis zu
Videokonservierung erproben Studierende den optimalen Workflow im
Management und der Dokumentation von visuellem Material (sei es als
Dokument, Beweis, Illustration oder Informationsquelle). Aktuellste
Datenbanktechnologien und Profikenntnisse der Facetten des Bildmarktes
sind Schwerpunkte der Ausbildung.
Fragen des Langzeiterhaltes von Information sind ebenso im Fokus wie
die Verschlagwortung von Bilddaten, ColorManagement oder aktuelle
Speicher- und Distributionsstrategien. Darueber hinaus wird auf
Fuehrungskompetenzen fuer die Leitung von Organisationseinheiten und
Projekten im Kultur- und Medienbereich besonderes Augenmerk gelegt.

Das postgraduale Studienangebot MedienKunstGeschichte vermittelt durch
ein Netzwerk renommierter internationaler TheoretikerInnen,
KuenstlerInnen und KuratorInnen, Steve Dietz, Erkki Huhtamo, Lev
Manovich, Christiane Paul, Paul Sermon, Oliver Grau u.a., die
Schluesselentwicklungen der Kunst unserer Zeit. Unterstuetzt durch
Onlinedatenbanken und andere zeitgemaesse Lehrinstrumente, wird
abschnittweise in die Felder Computeranimation, Netzkunst, Interaktive
-, Telematische - und Genetische Kunst bis zu den juengsten Reflexionen
von KuenstlerInnen auf dem Gebiet der Nano-Kunst eingefuehrt. Im
Themenfokus stehen die Ausstellung, Sammlung, Erhaltung von Medienkunst
sowie rechtliche und oekonomische Fragen (Programm in englischer
Sprache).

Dieses in Europa singulaere Angebot bietet Personen, die bereits erste
Erfahrungen im Umgang mit Fotografie gesammelt haben, intensive
Beschaeftigung mit der Fotogeschichte, Produktionsbedingungen von
Bildern, Fototechnik und Fotoanalyse.

Ziel ist die Ausbildung von ExpertInnen im Feld der Fotogeschichte und
-analyse fuer (Foto)Museen, Sammlungen und Archive, Bibliotheken,
Dokumentationsstellen, Galerien und weitere Institutionen in intensiver
Beschaeftigung mit historischem und zeitgenaessischem Fotomaterial.

Das Studienprogramm widmet sich zentralen inhaltlichen Fragestellungen
von Bildern. Neben Bild- und Medientheorie sowie angewandter
Medienikonographie werden unter anderem Fragen der visuellen
Kommunikationsfaehigkeit von Bildmedien, der Interpretation von
Bildinhalten im historischen und/oder religioesen Kontext oder auch der
visuellen Inszenierung von politischer Macht eingehend behandelt.
Ausgehend von Entwicklungen der westeuropaeischen Kultur wird dabei auch
ausser-europaeisches Bildschaffen reflektiert und in Abrissen
vorgestellt. Die Befaehigung fuer ein selbstaendiges Herangehen an
visuelle Artefakte, deren inhaltliche Analyse und gezielte Verwendung in
Kombination mit vermittelten Kenntnissen des internationalen Bildmarktes
und allgemeinem Management-Knowhow qualifizieren die AbsolventInnen fuer
Fuehrungspositionen in Museen, Bildarchiven, Auktionshaeusern und
aehnlichen Einrichtungen.

Danube University Krems is the first public university
in Europe which specializes in advanced continuing education
offering low-residency degree programs for working professionals
and lifelong learners. The Center for Image Science, where
many MediaArtHistories courses take place, is housed in a
14th century Monastary, remodeled to fit the needs of modern
research in singular surroundings.

With its new modular courses starting in November 2006
the Center for Image Science (CIS) at Danube University offers
an educational program unique in Europe.

Without interrupting their career students have the opportunity to
learn
through direct, hands-on experience, social learning in small groups
and contacts with commerce and industry. They gain key
qualifications for the contemporary art and media marketplace.

International experts analyze the image worlds of art, science,
politics and economy and elucidate how they originated, became
established and how they have stood the test of time.
The innovative approach at CIS is reinforced by praxis-oriented study,

for example, of new types of image and video databases
and the application of advanced processes for converting
image collections into digital form. The post-graduate MA
courses offer instruction in a finely tuned mix of practical skills,
theoretical knowledge and close cooperation with top
researchers and professionals from the international
image science community.

=> First international Master in MEDIA.ART.HISTORIES (English
language)
The postgraduate program MediaArtHistories conveys the
most important developments of contemporary art
through a network of renowned international theorists,
artists and curators like Steve Dietz, Erkki Huhtamo,
Lev Manovich, Christiane Paul, Paul Sermon, Oliver Grau
and many others. Using online databases and other
modern aids, knowledge of computer animation, net art,
interactive, telematic and genetic art as well as the most
recent reflections on nano art, CAVE installations, augmented
reality and wearables are introduced. Historical derivations
that go far back into art and media history are tied in
intriguing ways to digital art. Important approaches
and methods from Image Science, Media Archaeology
and the History of Science & Technology will be discussed.
Media Art History offers a basis for understanding evolutionary
history of audiovisual media, from the Laterna Magica to
the Panorama, Phantasmagoria, Film, and the Virtual Art
of recent decades.

Have you ever asked yourself: "How do I get on the Cover of
Nature?"
The program Image & Science conveys in-depth knowledge
of the history, aesthetics and practice of scientific visualization.
Based on historically established image competency it
demonstrates the latest possibilities of exemplifying scientific
data and results in a visual form and helps professionals in the
field to achieve quick results and improve their way of presenting
their work. Various forms of visual information are being included
- from statistical analysis and diagrams, plans and technical
drawings to visualizations in natural sciences like in Medicine or
Nanotechnology or displays of fluidity. The close cooperation of
natural scientists, IT-professionals, historians, artists and
designers contribute to the interlacing of the complementary
perspectives of natural sciences and the cultural and historical
approach.
