Call for Papers - Ethnohistory 2006
"EthnoARThistory: 1600-1900"
We are currently seeking contributions for a panel titled
"EthnoARThistory: 1600-1900" for the fall 2006 annual meeting of the
American Society for Ethnohistory in Williamsburg, Virginia. We welcome
proposals for papers that address the status of art historical inquiry
within an ethnohistory framework; we will favor papers that focus on
subjects related to the Americas. Possible subjects might include the
relationship between anthropology and photography in the 19th century,
casta painting in colonial Mexico or Peru, images of Native Americans and
the American West, illustrated histories of the Americas, or
representations of slaves and slavery in the United States and/or South
America. We also welcome papers that problematize the concept of
"ethnoarthistory."
Those interested should email a one-page proposal and a one-page CV,
including contact information, by June 1, 2006 to both Rebecca Parker
Brienen (Art and Art History Dept., Univ. of Miami): rpbrienenmiami.edu
and Dawn Odell (Dept. of Art and Art History, Virginia Tech.): odellvt.edu
