Lecturer in Contemporary and Post 1960s Visual Culture
School of History of Art, Film and Visual Media
Permanent, full time
You will be expected to develop links within the School between the
history of art and visual media and the history of film programmes.
You will also be involved in teaching on a range of undergraduate and
postgraduate programmes as well as supervising research students. An
expertise in the history of digital or time-based media is desirable.
Applicants should have a good first degree and a completed PhD.,
together with published research or evidence of exceptional potential.
Teaching experience at degree level is highly desirable. The post will
also involve administrative responsibilities within the School.
Salary range: £27,196 to £29,492 p.a. incl., dependent upon
qualifications and experience.

Lectureship
Ferguson Centre, Faculty of Arts
Based in Milton Keynes Full-time, three year appointment, from 1
September 2005
Funded by the Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust
The Ferguson Centre aims to foster research in African, South Asian,
and increasingly wider post-colonial contexts, by building upon
existing strengths in the Arts Faculty at The Open University in
teaching and research, and through collaborative projects with
institutions and individuals in Africa and South Asia.
You will be expected to have a PhD or equivalent academic
qualification in a relevant subject area except Literature and an
outstanding record of research publications and evidence of current
research activity in some aspect of the cultures of Africa (except
Literature).
You will make a significant contribution to the research culture of
the Centre and the University, while pursuing individual research
within the strategy of the Ferguson Centre and the Arts Faculty,
publishing and attending conferences to deliver papers; and
Contributing to curriculum development and teaching at undergraduate
and postgraduate levels where appropriate.

In German Representations of Women and Death in German Literature,
Art, and Media after 1500.
University Of Edinburgh And University Of Oxford
The Universities of Edinburgh and Oxford are recruiting candidates for
two AHRC-funded PhD studentships, to be awarded as part of the AHRC
major research project Representations of Women and Death in German
Literature, Art, and Media after 1500.
Professor Sarah Colvin (Edinburgh) will supervise a studentship on
‘The discourse of female violence in Germany in the 1960s and 1970s’.
Professor Helen Watanabe-O’Kelly (Oxford) will supervise a studentship
on ‘The figure of the widow in nineteenth-century German literature
and culture’.
A first degree (undergraduate degree) in German is required. A formal
postgraduate qualification in a relevant area must be completed by the
time the studentship commences. Candidates who do not have such a
qualification must show evidence of sustained experience beyond first
degree level that is specifically relevant to the doctoral research
project.
The studentships will commence from 1 October 2005 and will be for
three years. UK residents will be awarded maintenance fees at the
normal AHRC rate as well as tuition fees. Nationals of a member state
of the EU other than the UK who do not meet UK residency requirements
are eligible for a fees-only award.
The closing date for the Edinburgh studentship is Friday 27 May 2005.
