Durning-Lawrence Professor of History of Art

UCL’s Department of History of Art is a successful medium-sized department
with a high international reputation both for its scholarship and for its
teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels. In view of the retirement
of Professors David Bindman and Helen Weston later this year, the
department is seeking to make three new appointments, from September 2005.
One of these appointments will be to the Durning-Lawrence Chair of the
History of Art. The other appointments may be made at any level from
Lecturer ‘A’ to Senior Lecturer/Reader, according to the experience and
achievements of the successful candidates. We seek to appoint scholars
with specialisms in the following areas: British art and culture of the
eighteenth and nineteenth century; French art and culture from c. 1700 to
c. 1850; twentieth-century or contemporary art in the context of the
global impact of modern and/or postmodern art.

The person appointed will be an internationally distinguished scholar,
working in either the British or the French field.

Professorial salary is negotiable.

The Lectureship/Senior Lectureship/ Readership salary will be paid within
the range of £25,973 - £44,903 inclusive of London Allowance.
