Das Deutsche Forum für Kunstgeschichte widmet seinen Jahresschwerpunkt
2004/2005 dem Thema:

"Die Repräsentation des Helden/Héros. Moderne Konzepte eines traditionellen
Modells. Ein deutsch-französischer Vergleich."

Dazu werden Jahresstipendien ausgeschrieben, die es
Nachwuchswissenschaftlern vom 1. September 2004 -- 31. August 2005
ermöglichen sollen, in Paris zu forschen. Die Teilnahme an den Aktivitäten
des Forums wird erwartet. In Seminaren und Kolloquien, auf Archiv- und
Studienreisen sollen Formen, Motive und Funktionen der Heldenverehrung von
der Aufklärung bis zur Gegenwart in Deutschland und Frankreich untersucht
werden. Die Rolle der verschiedenen Bildmedien und Gattungen bei der
Ablösung des klassischen Heroenideals im Sinne eines auf den Fürsten
bezogenen exemplum virtutis soll dabei genauso Berücksichtigung finden wie
die Ausprägung neuer Heldentypen (einschließlich des negativen Helden).
Beispielsweise lassen sich hier jene Versuche der Neubegründung moralischer
Werte mittels der Repräsentation von Grands hommes und Geistesgrößen
anführen oder auch die Selbstidentifikation des Künstlers mit der
Heldenrolle sowie die Pluralisierung des Heldentums wie sie insbesondere im
Film massenwirksam wurde.
Interessenten mit einem abgeschlossenen Hochschulstudium der Kunstgeschichte
und mit guten Französischkenntnissen werden gebeten, ihre Bewerbungen, die
neben den üblichen Unterlagen das Gutachten eines Hochschullehrers sowie die
Projektskizze zu einem Arbeitsvorhaben zum oben skizzierten Thema enthalten
sollen, bis zum 1. April 2004 an folgende Adresse zu richten:

The German Center for Art History in Paris, founded in 1997, promotes the
study of the art of France and Germany, with the objective of fostering
interest and research in the arts and the humanities of those two countries,
as well as to stimulate an exchange of ideas and methodologies between
scholars and institutions. To this end, the Center welcomes an
international community of scholars to its facilities on the historic Place
des Victoires. The Center offers approximately six fellowships a year for
students, regardless of nationality, to pursue their research in the context
of a pre-determined theme. In addition to the events organized around the
annual research theme, the Center sponsors a number of diverse lectures and
colloquia, often in conjunction with other institutions. It also publishes
a wide range of books in French and German.

The research theme for the Center's fellowships for the period from
September 1, 2004 to August 31, 2005, will be:

"Representations of the hero transformed in modern times: a comparison of
French and German examples."

The focus will be on new forms of heroic representation that have
transformed the classical ideal of the hero, the exemplum virtutis of
princes and great warriors. Since the Enlightenment the latter was
superseded by concepts of the hero extending from the "man of merit" to the
common person, including the anti-hero of modern times. The form and
function of these images will be examined across the spectrum of media and
genres of art from the eighteenth to the twenty-first centuries. Examples
of possible topics are representations of "great men" expressing a new
definition of moral worth through images of intellectual heroes; the
gendering of the hero; artists' identification with the role of the hero;
the plurality of heroism, as exemplified in the mass medium of film; or the
problem of the heroic in abstract art. The varied manifestations of the
theme and their significance will be examined in seminars, colloquia, and
study trips.
To be eligible, the applicant must have finished all course work and
residency requirements for the Ph.d., or to have defended the dissertation
within the past three years. A working knowledge of French and German is
essential. Recipients are expected to be in residence for the duration of
the fellowship and to participate in the activities of the Center.
Applications must include a proposal that situates the project within the
context of the research theme, as well as a schedule that indicates its
place in the individual's overall research plan. The applicant must also
provide a CV and a letter of recommendation from the dissertation advisor.

Le Centre allemand d'histoire de l'art consacre son thème annuel de
recherche pour l'année 2004-2005 à :

« La représentation du héros/Held. Concepts modernes d'un modèle
traditionnel. Une comparaison franco-allemande. »

Dans ce but, il octroie des bourses annuelles devant permettre à de jeunes
scientifiques de faire des recherches à Paris du 1er septembre 2004 au 31
août 2005. Les boursiers devront, par ailleurs, participer aux activités du
Centre. Ils étudieront lors de séminaires, colloques et voyages d'étude les
formes, motifs et fonctions de vénération du héros du siècle des Lumières à
la période contemporaine, en Allemagne et en France. Ils devront prendre en
compte le rôle exercé par les différents media et genres artistiques dans la
disparition de l'idéal classique du héros à l'exemple du prince (exemplum
virtutis), ainsi que l'affirmation de nouveaux types de héros (y compris le
héros négatif).
Les axes de recherche pourront être, par exemple, les suivants : une
nouvelle définition des valeurs morales à travers la représentation de «
grands hommes » et de héros spirituels, l'identification personnelle de
l'artiste au héros, et les différentes formes de l'héroïsme vulgarisé
particulièrement par le cinéma.
Les candidats intéressés doivent être titulaires d'une maîtrise en histoire
de l'art et avoir élaboré un projet de thèse. Une bonne connaissance de
l'allemand est indispensable. Les dossiers de candidature doivent
comprendre, en dehors des documents d'usage (CV, diplômes...) une
recommandation de leur professeur ainsi qu'une esquisse de projet sur le
thème évoqué ci-dessus s'insérant dans leur projet de recherche personnel.
