The CinemArts: Film and Art History Special Interest Group of the Society for Cinema and Media Studies seeks submissions for its Graduate Student Essay Prize, with the winner to be announced at the 2020 conference. This award is meant to recognize outstanding scholarship from students currently enrolled in a recognized graduate program and working at the intersection of film, art and visual culture. Applicants must be current SCMS and CinemArts members (but not necessarily presenting at the 2020 conference). Submissions may include revised seminar papers, dissertation excerpts, or any essay published in 2019-2020. Submissions are limited to one per applicant, should not exceed 8,500 words (excluding notes), and must use a standard citation format. If the winning essay is unpublished, the author may be matched with a mentor to help prepare the essay for publication.
