On the 9th and 10th of December, 2016, Sàrmede (TV) will host the first Symposium on Illustration, with the title "Illustrating for Wittgenstein”. It will be the first step of a new journey in the framework of the International School of Illustration: the Grammar of Illustration.

We invited eight thinkers and creators to reflect on how an image is envisaged. Ludwig Wittgenstein, among the most relevant intellectuals of the 20th century, gave us a direction: "The limits of my language are the limits of my world.”
The knowledge of words is, therefore, relevant to think about creating an image? How far can we go in altering reality while telling it? How do we speak (and illustrate) the unspeakable? What kind of relationship there is between poetical image and reality, facts and emotions?

We will try to answer all these questions - and many more - during our Symposium, with the help of the philosopher of languages Luigi Peressinotto (who will deliver the lectio magistralis “Image and thought in Wittgenstein”), the professor of Children's Literature Marnie Campagnaro, the curator of Le immagini della fantasia Monica Monachesi, lo scrittore Grassa Toro, editor and writer Giovanna Zoboli, illustrator Joanna Concejo, photographer and author Johann Fournier, researcher of Aesthetic and Theory of the Arts Chiara Sironi, illustrator Linda Wolfsgruber. The round tables will be moderated by editor Arianna Squilloni.

The Symposium, organised by the Foundation “Šte?pán Zavr?el”, was born out of an idea of Gabriel Pacheco. The event is open to everybody and free, booking required (infosarmedemostra.it)
