KODE seeks a Director
KODE is Norway's second largest art museum. It administers one of the
most important and largest art collections in the country, as well as
the homes of three performing artists: the Edvard Grieg Museum
Troldhaugen, the Harald Sæverud Museum Siljustøl, and the Ole Bull
Museum Lysøen.
The museum measures itself against the best museums in Europe and seeks
to innovate and contribute to the discourses on art and culture.
KODE has an operating budget of approximately 90 million NOK, it employs
about 70 people and has about 185,000 visitors annually.
Our present executive director will become director of ARoS Aarhus Art
Museum on 01 January 2014. We therefore seek his successor; an
offensive, innovative, strategically strong and result-oriented leader
who will continue to lead KODE's development.
The executive director has full artistic, administrative, economic and
personnel-related responsibilities. KODE's mission statement emphasizes
the organization's role as a leading cultural actor, and its ability to
influence the way in which society develops. As an enculturative
institution, our responsibility is to give insight to the public, and to
stimulate the public to reflect when encountering art and music. The
executive director will work with a professional staff, each member of
which has a high level of expertise in his or her respective field.
We seek a person who:
- has relevant higher education in the field of art, plus leadership
experience from Norway and/or internationally
- has understanding of, and experience with, artistic and administrative
planning and budgetary management
- has good, documented abilities for collaboration, plus the ability to
inspire and motivate others
- has the ability to complete projects
- has a wide national - preferably also international - network within
the professional fields of our museums
- has experience in collaborating with public authorities
- is comfortable with being a proactive, visible representative for the
museum vis-à-vis its collaborative partners, the media and the public
We can offer competitive conditions in an environment and city that is
itself a cultural institution with a large, competent and culturally
engaged public. Negotiated starting date.
Practical information about the position can be sought from current
director Erlend G. Høyersten ((+47) 45426542) or board chairman
Per-Kristian Foss ((+47) 48082610).
