Rethinking Early Modern Print Today: New Questions & New Approaches

International study day at the University of Poitiers, organized by Teoman Akgönül (PhD candidate, University of Poitiers, Criham, INHA), Amélie Folliot (PhD candidate, University of Rennes 2, HCA), Estelle Leutrat (Professor, University of Poitiers, Criham, and Director of Studies, EPHE-PSL, Saprat), and Louise Quentel (PhD candidate, University of Poitiers, Criham)

This study day will bring together specialists in the history of printmaking - ranging from doctoral candidates to established researchers - to discuss current developments and future prospects in research on Early Modern prints. The morning session will focus on methodology, addressing materiality (filigranology and color analysis) followed by digital experiments (applied to discourse on prints in art literature and the processing of large bodies of so-called "demi-fine" prints). The afternoon will highlight new research perspectives centered on Franco-Italian exchanges (botanical illustrations and the reception of Raphael through prints in France) and on the history of print collections and series from the 16th to the early 17th century.
