Vienna Research Group Leader "Cognitive Sciences"

University of Vienna, 01.01.2014–31.12.2020
Bewerbungsschluss: 10.05.2015

Barbara Leitner

Vienna Research Group Leader "Cognitive Sciences"

Position:

Applications are being invited for outstanding early-career scientists
(2-8 years post PhD), interested in building up their first independent
research group in the field of "Cognitive Sciences" at the University of
Vienna.

The aim of this announcement is to source exceptional candidates, who,
once selected, will then go on to submit an application together with an
experienced proponent at the University of Vienna, to the current call
for young investigators by the Vienna Science and Technology Fund
(WWTF): http://www.wwtf.at/upload/VRG13_final_web4.pdf.

In the case of a successful funding decision, the research group would
be financed 6-8 years, with 1.5 million EUR being provided by the WWTF,
supplemented by an additional contribution from the University itself.
After a successful interim evaluation, the University of Vienna will
offer the group leader a tenure-track position.

Requirements:

Applicants should have exceptional promise, or a proven record of
research achievement, in the field of Cognitive Sciences, and provide
strong evidence of their potential to make a significant contribution to
the systematic understanding of cognitive processes in humans, animals
and/or machines.

Application procedure:

Applications, including a CV and a short statement of the intended
research project, should be sent to the respective contact person at the
potential hosting lab by no later than 10th May 2013.

One possible hosting lab is for example the Laboratory for Cognitive
Research in Art History under the direction of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Raphael
Rosenberg. It is part of the Department for Art History, which is one of
the oldest and largest in its field world-wide. They use cognitive
methods ranging from questionnaires to physiological measurements
(especially eye-tracking) to determine how the qualities of the work
(form and content), of the observer (individually and culturally) and of
the context effect the beholding of aesthetic objects.

A selection of other possible hosting labs at the University of Vienna
is available online at
https://forschung.univie.ac.at/cognitive_sciences/. Please note that
this is not an exhaustive list.
