We are an interdisciplinary team of biologists, psychologists, and philosophers from all around the world investigating intuitive judgments about the origins and perception of art. We are contacting you because of your expertise in the history of art. Your perspective is particularly valuable to us, as, unlike in other scientific fields, the viewpoint of specialists in art is central to our research.
We would be honored to invite you to help us explore how diverse viewpoints shape the way art is experienced. In our study, you will see images of objects from different historical periods. We will ask you to intuitively judge whether each object counts as art for you. There is no predefined definition of art – what matters most is your expert intuition and impression.
We have already collected responses from the general public, but at this stage, our goal is to understand how expert judgments may converge with or differ from intuitive evaluations made by non-experts. Your participation will allow us to capture the unique insights of specialists in the field.

As we know, everyone in academia is very busy, so we’ve designed the survey to be quick, convenient, and take between 3-5 minutes. We promise!!

Finally, we would like to emphasize that participation in this study also has a prosocial dimension.
The principal investigator of the project, Prof. Piotr Sorokowski, has committed to making a personal donation of 1 PLN for each participant who completes the study to a charitable organization supporting individuals experiencing homelessness in their process of recovery and social reintegration.
Full documentation of the donation will be included in the published article as Supplementary Materials to ensure complete transparency.
