While Lusophone Africa remains largely sidelined in global debates on restitution, a number of scholars, curators, artists, diaspora and communities historically linked to Mozambique have substantially engaged with this topic. Bringing these positions together, this special issue proposes a possible “next shot” in an unfinished debate, focusing less on closure than on the tensions and responsibilities involved when “restitution” and “resgate” name a history of dispossession and erasure in sharply different ways. Between Maputo, Durban and the Amakhuwa‑Zanzibari community, the contributions follow wordings, silences and claims that move beyond colonial and national frameworks, keeping open what restitution can name and set in motion in these contexts.

Alors que l'Afrique lusophone reste largement marginalisée dans les débats internationaux sur la restitution, nombre d’universitaires, de curateur.ice.s, d'artistes mozambicain.e.s, de la diaspora et de communautés historiquement liées au Mozambique se sont engagé.e.s dans cette question. En rassemblant ces positions multiples, ce numéro propose une possible « prochaine étape » d'un débat inachevé. Il fait apparaître différents types de tensions et de responsabilités qu'impliquent les termes de « restitution » et de « resgate » lorsqu'ils désignent une histoire de dépossession et d'effacement. Entre Maputo, Durban et la communauté Amakhuwa-Zanzibari, ces contributions réfléchissent également aux silences et aux revendications qui dépassent les cadres coloniaux et nationaux. Elles laissent ouvertes ce que la restitution peut désigner et ce qu'elle peut mettre en mouvement dans ces contextes.
