Die englischsprachige Konferenz bildet einen der Hochpunkte zum Abschluss der diesjährigen "Triennale der Moderne", einem Festival mit Programm in Dessau, Weimar und – dort etwas länger, noch bis zum 14. Dezember laufend – in Berlin.

Neben Vorträgen internationaler Referent:innen wird es bei der Konferenz um die Frage gehen, wir wie das bauliche, kulturelle und gesellschaftliche Erbe der Moderne heute produktiv machen können. Die Konferenz mit Partnern, Beispielen und Referent*innen aus verschiedenen europäischen Ländern will das baukulturelle und ideengeschichtliche Erbe der Moderne in Bezug zu aktuellen Debatten setzen, wo es in politischen Agenden um den Rückbau demokratischer und emanzipatorischer Werte geht. Hier eröffnet die Erforschung der Moderne als „fortschrittliches Erbe“ einen großen Kosmos möglicher Einsichten in Hinblick auf die aktuellen anti-demokratischen Tendenzen in Politik und Gesellschaft.

Konkret wird es unter anderem es auch um eine soziale und kulturelle Nachnutzung von Bauten des Brutalismus in Europa gehen. Dazu passt der Ort der Konferenz, der nördliche Anbau des Rathauses in Berlin-Tempelhof – selbst ein Bau im brutalistischen Stil, der für die Konferenz die (seit längerem verschlossenen) Türen öffnet.

Unter den Referierenden sind viele Aktive aus der Initiative zu einer "European Triennial of Modernism (ETOM)", die sich bei dem deutschen Vorläufer, der "Triennale der Moderne" 2022 erstmalig präsentiert hat. Diese Initiative umfasst 40 Partner:innen aus 15 Ländern und ist als offizielles Lab Teil des „New European Bauhaus“ und firmiert auch als "ETOM NEB Lab". Bereits 2023 und 2024 hatte das ETOM NEB Lab vergleichbare Konferenzen in Berlin und Halle organisiert.
