Call for Papers L’IDEA, Volume III, 2026 | Issue 1. Texts, Sources, Lexicon

Deadline for the abstracts: 15 December 2025
Deadline for the articles: 15 March 2026

Languages: En, Fr, It

The Editorial Board invites submissions for its 3rd volume (2026), Issue 1. Texts, Sources, Lexicon (interdisciplinary focus on artists’ ideas, writings and lexicon from Renaissance to Contemporary).

L'IDEA, Issue 1. Texts, Sources, Lexicon, welcomes original contributions grounded in a rigorous methodological approach, with particular attention to conceptual and terminological questions in the history of art and visual culture from the Renaissance to the contemporary period. For its third issue, the journal places no strict chronological or thematic boundaries, instead encouraging methodological and disciplinary openness. Submissions engaging with the history of art criticism, art theory, artistic language and writings, the history of philosophy in relation to art theory and to artistic practices, and the history of ideas and of the intellectual and artistic lexicon are particularly welcome, provided that they maintain a strong connection to artworks, artistic literature, and art criticism, which remain central to the mission of L’IDEA.

Submission Guidelines: The Call for papers is aimed at established researchers and scholars in possession of a PhD. Authors interested in contributing to either issue should send an abstract (max 2,000 characters, including spaces) along with a short biography to: lidearivistagmail.com by December 15, 2025. Final papers (max 40,000 characters including spaces) will be due by March 15, 2026 and will need to be accompanied by an abstract (max 1,000 characters) in Italian and English (and in the language of the article, if different), 5-10 keywords, images and image captions, and a final bibliography. All article submissions need to follow the journal’s editorial guidelines and will be subject to a double-blind, peer-review process. Image rights (jpeg or TIFF format, resolution 300 dpi) must be acquired by the author exclusively through the institutions that own them (museums, libraries, archives, collections, etc.), with specification (indemnity) of the credits already paid (N.B.: Images from other online digital archives will not be accepted).

Call for Papers L’IDEA, Volume III, 2026 | Issue 2. Drawings

Deadline for the abstracts: 15 December 2025
Deadline for the articles: 15 March 2026

Languages: En, Fr, It

The Editorial Board invites submissions for its 3rd volume (2026), Issue 2. Drawings (monographic focus on Raphael, his school, and legacy):

In anticipation of the 500th anniversary of the Sack of Rome (1527–2027), this monographic issue will be devoted to Raphael, his school and followers, and to his artistic legacy within and beyond the Cinquecento. We especially welcome contributions that explore drawing as both conceptual and practical tools in artistic creation; the role of inventive studies, copies, and adaptations in the transmission of knowledge; modes of imitation and variation within Raphael’s workshop and beyond; issues surrounding the materiality and archaeology of drawings.
