La Dirección de estudios del Museo Reina Sofía abre una convocatoria para participar en Estéticas de la paz y tácticas de deserción: prefigurando nuevos pacifismos y formas de justicia transicional. Este grupo de estudio anual propone repensar, desde una perspectiva tanto teórico-crítica como histórico-artística, el complejo entramado de conceptos y ejercicios que operan bajo la noción de pacifismo. Un término no exento de impugnaciones y tensiones críticas que, en su definición, convoca una multiplicidad de prácticas que van desde el antimilitarismo y los movimientos antibélicos hasta la militancia por la no violencia, al tiempo que abre debates candentes en torno a la violencia, la justicia, la reparación o la deserción. El pacifismo no se concibe aquí como una doctrina moral, sino como una forma activa de resistencia ética y política capaz de producir lenguajes estéticos y nuevas posiciones de imaginación social.

En un presente marcado por el rearme, la guerra, el genocidio y el desmoronamiento del contrato social, este grupo persigue dotarse de herramientas para, por un lado, cartografiar las genealogías y las estéticas de la paz, dentro y fuera del contexto español, y, por otro, analizar las estrategias que han contribuido a desactivar la potencia crítica de las luchas por la paz. Asimismo, se busca actualizar los debates críticos en torno al uso de la violencia y la no violencia, así como explorar el conflicto de su representación en el núcleo mismo de las culturas visuales; abordar las proposiciones de la justicia transicional y antipunitiva, y su intersección con las prácticas artísticas, visuales y cinematográficas; o explorar ejemplos históricos de tribunales y activismos paralegales iniciados por artistas. Se trata, en definitiva, de experiencias, proyectos e iniciativas en los que se declinan gestos, imaginarios y vocabularios vinculados a las nociones de justicia, reparación, memoria y duelo.

Es importante señalar, además, que el grupo de estudio se sostiene sobre una línea de reflexión continua en torno a las prácticas y nociones aprendidas, entre otros, del pensamiento contemporáneo y radical negro, como la fuga, el éxodo, el abolicionismo, la deserción y el rechazo; o, dicho de otro modo, estrategias e ideas que establecen modos de sustraerse a los mandatos de instituciones o a paradigmas violentos que han de ser abandonados o acabados. Desde perspectivas feministas, internacionalistas y contracoloniales, estos conceptos han nutrido coaliciones y posiciones culturales cuya recuperación resulta hoy urgente para prefigurar un nuevo pacifismo: generativo, transformador y radical.

Estéticas de la paz y tácticas de deserción se desarrolla en sesiones quincenales distribuidas entre octubre y junio, en las que se alternan sesiones teóricas, proyecciones, trabajo con obras y archivos de la Colección del Museo, talleres de lectura y sesiones públicas. El grupo se estructura a partir de metodologías sostenidas de estudio, lectura atenta y discusión colectiva de autoras y autores como Judith Butler, Elsa Dorlin, Juan Albarrán, Rita Segato, Sven Lütticken, Ruth Wilson Gilmore o Franco «Bifo» Berardi; de episodios históricos como el movimiento contra la carrera armamentística y nuclear en España; y de la obra de artistas y activistas como Rojava Film Commune, Manuel Correa y la Oficina de Investigación Documental, o Jonas Staal, entre otros casos iniciales que se irán ampliando conforme el grupo avance en el tiempo.

La participación es gratuita hasta completar aforo (20 personas). Las sesiones serán en español e inglés. Aesthetics of Peace and Desertion Tactics. Study Group

The Study Directorship of the Museo Reina Sofía announces an open call for participation in Aesthetics of Peace and Desertion Tactics: Prefiguring New Pacifisms and Forms of Transitional Justice. This annual study group proposes a rethinking —through both a theoretical-critical and historical-artistic lens— of the intricate network of concepts and practices operating under the notion of pacifism. A term not without contestation and critical tension, pacifism gathers under its name a multiplicity of practices —from anti-militarism and anti-war movements to non-violence activism— while simultaneously opening urgent debates around violence, justice, reparation and desertion. Here, pacifism is not conceived as a moral doctrine, but as an active form of ethical and political resistance capable of generating aesthetic languages and new positions of social imagination.

In a present marked by rearmament, war, genocide and the collapse of the social contract, this group aims to equip ourselves with tools to, on the one hand, map genealogies and aesthetics of peace and, on the other, analyze strategies of pacification that have served to neutralize the critical power of peace struggles. The group also seeks to update critical debates surrounding the use of violence and nonviolence, as well as to explore the representational conflicts at the very core of visual cultures; to address proposals around transitional and anti-punitive justice and their intersections with artistic, visual and film practices; and to examine historical examples of tribunals and paralegal activism initiated by artists. Ultimately, the focus is on experiences, projects and initiatives that articulate gestures, imaginaries and vocabularies linked to the notions of justice, reparation, memory, and mourning.

It is also important to note that this study group is grounded in an ongoing line of reflection on practices and concepts informed, among others, by contemporary and radical Black thought —such as fugitivity, exodus, abolitionism, desertion and refusal. In other words, strategies and ideas that propose ways of withdrawing from the mandates of institutions or from violent paradigms that must be dismantled or left behind. From feminist, internationalist and decolonial perspectives, these concepts have nourished cultural coalitions and positions whose recovery has become urgent today in order to prefigure a new pacifism: generative, transformative and radical.

The study group unfolds through biweekly sessions from October to June. These sessions alternate between theoretical discussions, screenings, work with artworks and archival materials from the Museo’s Collection, reading workshops and public sessions. The group is structured around sustained methodologies of study, close reading and collective discussion of thinkers such as Judith Butler, Elsa Dorlin, Juan Albarrán, Rita Segato, Sven Lütticken, Ruth Wilson Gilmore and Franco “Bifo” Berardi; historical episodes such as the anti-nuclear and anti-arms race movement in Spain; and the work of artists and activists such as the Rojava Film Commune, Manuel Correa and the Oficina de Investigación Documental (Office for Documentary Investigation), and Jonas Staal, among other initial cases that will be expanded as the group progresses over time.
