Historians of British Art (HBA) -Sponsored Session at CAA 2026

Chicago, IL, USA
Deadline: Apr 18, 2025

Courtney Wilder / Historians of British Art

The Historians of British Art (HBA) invites proposals for a sponsored panel at the 114th Annual Conference of the College Art Association (CAA), to be held in Chicago from February 18–21, 2026.

We welcome panel proposals that engage with any aspect or time period of British art, broadly defined. Topics might explore questions of empire and colonialism, the environmental humanities, archives, media and materiality, artistic networks, or transnational perspectives.
Panels may take traditional or experimental formats and should foster critical dialogue around historical and contemporary approaches to British art.

Once the theme and chair(s) of the panel are selected, this session will solicit contributions through CAA’s open call and HBA’s own channels. The chairs or co-chairs must be members in good standing of HBA and CAA within 90 days of the panel being accepted (according to CAA’s own rules). Chair(s) will be responsible for selecting, coordinating, and communicating with presenters.
Proposals must include:
- A panel title
- A session abstract (maximum 250 words)
- Five keywords that best represent the panel focus
- A shortened CV from the panel chair(s)
- Optional: Up to five images related to the panel (under 10MB total)

The deadline for consideration is Friday, April 18 with a decision announced by April 23, so that unsuccessful proposals can still be submitted directly to CAA before its deadline of April 25, 2025.

Please submit proposals and any inquiries to mhahnccp.edu, and these will be forwarded to the committee.

We look forward to reading your submissions!
