ARTis ON No. 16 (2025): Collecting Art

Deadline: May 30, 2025

Vera Gonçalves, Faculty of Arts and Humanities of University of Porto

The ARTIS, Art History Institute at the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon, will publish in the current year of 2025, issue No. 16 of ARTis ON, an electronic journal dedicated to the dissemination of studies in Art History, Heritage Sciences, and Art Markets.

The new issue will focus on the theme COLLECTING ART. This topic is of great contemporary relevance and generates much fascination due to the history and memories each collection carries, revealing the identity and taste of its creators.

We therefore invite researchers to submit their proposals, which may address the various aspects of the phenomenon of art collecting across different geographies, from the Renaissance to the present day, including:
- Collections and collectors;
- Current profiles and tastes;
- Formation and dispersal of collections;
- Patrons and market agents;
- Legacies and donations;
- Provenances and trajectories of artworks;
- Private collecting and public museums;
- Archives of collections and collectors;
- Artists who are collectors;
- Collecting and the preservation of artworks, etc.

Other aspects related to art collecting will also be considered.

Articles related to the theme will be accepted until 30 May 2025, following the journal’s submission guidelines, available at:
https://artis-on.letras.ulisboa.pt/index.php/aio/about/submissions

In the same timeframe, short articles for the Varia section, which do not need to adhere to the central theme of the journal, will also be accepted.

By 30 June 2025, the results of blind peer reviews will be announced to the authors.

Proposals must be submitted exclusively through the journal's platform.
