CONF 12.01.2025

Situated Conservation (Saint-Louis, 23-24 Jan 25)

Centre de recherche et de Documentation du Sénégal et les Comptoirs du Fleuve, Saint-Louis, Senegal, 23.–24.01.2025

Maeva Pimo

Inspired by Donna Haraway’s concept of situated knowledge, the term situated conservation reflects our belief that conservation is always contextual—shaped by the unique ecological, cultural, and knowledge systems of its environment. There is no single, universal method of conservation; instead, practices are deeply rooted in the places and communities where they unfold. The conference will also honour Ms. Fatima Fall Niang, ex-Director of the CRDS, a specialist in preventive conservation, and a UNESCO expert-referent for intangible heritage since 2018.
