International Journal of Surrealism 3.2 (Spring 2026): Open Edition.

To mark the fourth year of our journal, the editors of IJS announce an open edition for Spring 2026. Editions of the IJS to date have covered many critical approaches to Surrealist Studies with thematic editions 2023-2025 focusing on the dynamic between Surrealism and gender, space, manifestations, race and collage in turn. For this open edition, scholars across career stages, as well as artists and writers, areinvited to submit new research essays which engage with other aspects of Surrealist Studies – including but not limited to its historiography, its impact on popular culture, more recent legacies in design and visual culture. Practitioners are invited to submit creative work in text and image for the ‘portfolio’ section of the journal; and we welcome interviews/conversations for the ‘Récit’ section. As always, we especially welcome contributions that expand the critical study of Surrealism, broadly considered, across media, scholarly disciplines, nations, and languages.

Submissions should be 5000–7000 words in length, including footnotes, and be accompanied by up to 6 images per article (with copyright secured). They must conform to the Chicago Manual of Style. Manuscripts in languages other than English are accepted but must be accompanied by a detailed summary in English (generally of 5000–10,000 words) and must be translated into English if they are recommended for publication. Manuscripts should be submitted in Microsoft Word format. The International Journal of Surrealism does not accept manuscripts that have been previously published in any language. All content is double-blind peer-reviewed.
