The Catholic Private University of Linz / Faculty of Philosophy and Art History is seeking to fill the position of University Professor (m/f/d) for Art History and Aesthetics at the Institute for History and Theory of Art, starting from winter semester 2025/2026.
The Department of Art History at the Faculty of Philosophy and Art History at the Catholic Private University of Linz represents the subject of art history with a focus on modern and contemporary art, with a claim to methodological diversity in its historical and theoretic dimensions. The profile of the department also includes the field of postcolonial and transcultural theory.
The tasks of the advertised professorship is to represent the subject of modern art history and aesthetics in its entire range in research and teaching. Interdisciplinary competences and knowledge in the fields of philosophy and theology as well as an engagement with intercultural questions on the relationship between art and religion are explicitly desired.
What is expected:
• Outstanding independent research results in the field of art history with a focus on aesthetics and art theory, especially modern and contemporary art
• Interest in postcolonial and transcultural theory
• Interdisciplinary skills and knowledge in the fields of philosophy and theology
• Integration into the relevant international scientific community
• Experience in university teaching and willingness for digital teaching
• Ability and willingness to teach in German and English
• Experience in acquiring third-party funding
• Experience in academic self-administration
• Willingness to participate in cooperation projects of the KU Linz
• Willingness to cooperate with the Diocese of Linz
Requirements:
• Completed studies in art history or a related subject
• Excellent doctorate/Ph.D., preferably in art history
• Relevant habilitation or equivalent achievements
• Higher education didactic qualification
The Faculty of Philosophy and Art History aims to increase its diversity and therefore expressly invites suitably qualified persons to apply.
Remuneration is based on the collective agreement of the Diocese of Linz, minimum salary € 4,911.16 according to the collective agreement 2023; higher classification depending on previous service; salary for 12 months plus 13th and 14th salary special payment (tax-privileged).
