The advertised position is part of the DFG-funded research project "Reverse Collection History. Art and Culture from Cameroon in German Museums" which has been ongoing at the Department of Modern Art History at TU Berlin together with Université de Dschang in Cameroon since 2020. The results of the first funding phase, including the result that more than 40,000 objects from Cameroon are today kept in public museums in the Federal Republic of Germany, are published in "Atlas der Abwesenheit. Kameruns Kulturerbe in Deutschland" (open access). Based on this research, the continuing project will focus on the conception and implementation of academic outreach programs in Cameroon and Germany as well as further in-depth research.
Tasks
The successful candidate will take an active role in shaping the content of the research project and will be responsible for the implementation of the research program in Germany and Cameroon in cooperation with the Université de Dschang.
Requirements
- Candidates must have completed a university degree (Diplom, Master, or equivalent) as well as completed a doctoral degree (or anticipate completion by 1.2.2024), in a discipline related to the project (e.g. art history, colonial history, cultural anthropology, German studies, museum history)
- Excellent French language skills
- Good command of German and/or English is required; willingness to learn either English or German is expected
Candidates should preferably have:
- Sound knowledge of European colonial history
- Experience in the conceptualisation and organization of academic events and outreach programs
- Experience in the conception of content and editing of publications
- Experience with different formats of modern scholarly communication (e.g. exhibitions, films, social media)
- Experience in an interdisciplinary and international working environment, and excellent teamworking and communication skills
