Art in Translation: Call for Recommendations & Student Prize.

The journal Art in Translation publishes English-language translations of significant texts on the visual arts presently available only in their source languages. It seeks to widen perspectives on global art writing, covering all areas of the visual arts, through the act of translation.
If you have a text in mind that deserves to be known to broader English-reading audiences, we would like to hear from you. We are interested in both recent texts and older sources.
We welcome recommendations from scholars at any level, including Masters and Postgraduate students. The best student recommendation will be awarded a prize of £250. The deadline for the student prize is 1 December 2023.

CRITERIA:
The recommended text must already have been published in a language other than English, and meet at least one of the following criteria:
• Groundbreaking within the field and in the broader field of art history and visual culture
• Accurately engages with current concerns and issues in the subject area
• Highly representative of the source culture and methodology
• Valuable introductory source, opening an initial path into areas of research and scholarship unfamiliar to the target readership
• A classic text within the source language, not necessarily focused on the source culture
• A classic text within the source language, focused on the source culture
• A text that makes a significant contribution to the global practice and understanding of art history and visual culture

Scholars are asked not to recommend their own texts.
If the text you recommended is selected for publication in English in AIT, you will be invited to write a short introduction, which will be published under your name together with the translated text.
