Material Matters. Bauen neu und zirkulär denken.
III. Internationales Paul-Frankl-Kolloquium.

Als Hauptproduzent von Abfall und CO2 kommt der Bauwirtschaft in Sachen Klimaschutz eine Schlüsselrolle zu. Das wachsende Bewusstsein hat sich im vielskandierten Begriff Bauwende manifestiert, mit dem u.a. eine Rückbesinnung auf regional verfügbare und kreislauffähige Baustoffe einhergeht. Angesichts des enormen Ressourcenverbrauchs und den Folgen für Klima und Umwelt ist es höchste Zeit für ein Umdenken und die Neubewertung von traditionellen, natürlichen Materialien.
In diesem Zuge erlebt auch der regional verfügbare Baustoff Lehm sowohl im Neubau als auch bei der Sanierung von Bestandsbauten eine Konjunktur und bietet dabei die idealen Voraussetzungen für klimaangepasstes und zirkuläres Bauen.

- Was können wir von traditionellen Bauweisen lernen?
- Wie können Kreislaufwirtschaft und Urban Mining realisiert werden?
- Wie können wir zukünftig klimagerecht und nachhaltig bauen?

Im Rahmen des III. Internationalen Paul-Frankl-Kolloquiums sollen diese Fragen adressiert und der älteste Baustoff der Welt ins Licht der Forschung gerückt werden. Die interdisziplinär orientierte Veranstaltung richtet sich dabei konkret an den wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchs in Architektur, Bauwesen und kulturhistorischen Fächern.
Das Kolloquium wird in Kooperation mit der GOLEHM-Initiative durchgeführt, die sich für den Erhalt und die Wiederbelebung des Massivlehmbaus in Mitteldeutschland einsetzt.

Material Matters. Thinking building in a new and circular way.
3rd International Paul-Frankl-Colloquium.

As the main producer of waste and CO2, the construction industry plays a key role in climate protection. The growing awareness has manifested itself in the popular term "Bauwende", which goes hand in hand with a
return to regionally available and recyclable building materials. In view of the enormous consumption of resources and the consequences for the climate and the environment, it is about time to rethink and
re-evaluate traditional, natural materials.
In this context, the locally available material loam is experiencing a boom both in new construction and in the renovation of existing buildings and additionally offers the ideal conditions for climate-adapted and circular construction.

- What can we learn from traditional construction techniques?
- How can circular economy and urban mining be realised?
- How can we build climate-friendly and sustainably in the future?

The 3rd International Paul-Frankl-Colloquium aims to address these questions and brings the oldest building material in the world into the light of research. The interdisciplinary event is aimed specifically at young academics in architecture, construction and cultural history.

The colloquium is being held in cooperation with the GOLEHM-initiative, which is committed to the preservation and revival of monolithic, massive earth buildings in Central Germany.
