Position overview

This ongoing position in art history and curatorial studies (open field) is situated within the Centre for Art History and Art Theory (CAHAT) in the ANU School of Art and Design.

The School of Art and Design is committed to developing and presenting original and creative research and teaching across diverse histories, theories, and practices of art, design, and material culture. It supports art-historical and practice-led scholarship at all levels from undergraduate to PhD. Established within the School in 2014, CAHAT offers one of the leading programs for art history and curatorial studies in Australia.

CAHAT’s current research and teaching strengths include global art history, race and gender studies, material culture studies, curatorial studies, digital methods for art history and curatorship, and Australian First Nations studies. CAHAT staff collaborate regularly with colleagues in the GLAM sector, especially the national cultural institutions located in Canberra.

As appropriate to the level of appointment, the appointee will demonstrate research leadership in the field of art history and curatorial studies, nationally and internationally, evidenced through publication in top-ranked academic venues. They will also have a demonstrated capacity for attracting competitive research funding.

This position is open field. However, candidates who demonstrate a commitment to advancing the discipline by contributing to current debates in the field will be highly regarded.
