Master Drawings
Master Drawings is seeking submissions of articles on modern and contemporary drawings. Master Drawings is a quarterly publication exclusively focused on scholarship in the field of drawing. It is one of the leading academic journals to examine drawings from the Western World, starting from the Renaissance to the present. Papers we’ve published on 20th and 21st century drawings are among our most popular articles, according to JSTOR. These include interviews with artists such as George Condo, Wayne Thiebaud, David Hockney, Glenn Brown, and Giuseppe Penone; and new scholarship on artists such as Robert Ryman, Marsden Hartley, Eva Hesse, Simone Forti, Alberto Giacometti and Robert Rauschenberg.

We have a swift review process and a quick turnaround time for publishing successful submissions (often less than one year’s time). On average, the length of an article ranges from 2500 to 8000 words, with five to twenty illustrations.

We encourage young scholars working on drawings to submit and be considered for the annual $5,000 Ricciardi Prize. The prize is given for the best article by an author under age 40. The submission may be on a drawings topic of any period, including modern & contemporary material. Deadline for submission is November 15, 2023.
