The University of Zurich invites applications for a

Professorship in Art History of the Early Modern Period (Open Rank)

The position should be filled by 1 February 2025. Depending on the qualification of the successful applicant, the appointment will be at the rank of full professor, associate professor or assistant professor with tenure track.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate excellence and international visibility in their research on either Renaissance or Baroque art history and have comprehensive teaching experience. They are expected to teach broadly on the history of visual arts between the 15th and 18th century and have a research focus in one of the following areas: history of visual media and materiality, history of collections, history of knowledge, transcultural exchange between European and non-European regions, digital methods of art history. Collaboration with the Institute of Art History’s other chairs will be highly appreciated, as will interdisciplinary engagement with colleagues from other departments, and from national and international institutions.

To be considered for the position, the applicant must have completed a PhD and have an excellent record of academic achievements in the relevant field. Teaching may be carried out in English. However, the administrative language at the University of Zurich is German, which is why non-German speaking candidates are expected to acquire proficiency in German within the first three years of their appointment.
