The following position at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is advertised:

University professorship

in accordance with § 99 Austrian University Act 2002 (Universitätsgesetz 2002) at the Institute for Conservation-Restoration at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. This full-time professorship is offered for a period of one year, starting on 1 October 2022.

The education program at the Institute for Conservation-Restoration at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna combines both theory and practice in the conservation of a broad range of cultural assets. The institute closely cooperates with the Academy's artistic as well as cultural and natural science institutes while maintaining the Academy's strategic focus in the areas of sustainability and decolonization.

The education at the IKR comprises 5 departments (conservation-restoration of paintings/sculptures, paper/books, wall painting/architectural surface, wood/objects, and modern and contemporary art. Applicants are expected to demonstrate comprehensive expertise, enabling them to integrate all five key areas into teaching.

Conditions of employment

• qualification as a restorer/conservator with a completed Austrian or international university or college degree appropriate to the position or equivalent aptitude
• experience at an international level in practical conservation-restoration
• proof of appropriate scientific achievements (publications, editorship and organization of congresses)
• expertise in conservation theory, conservation ethics, and technical art history or interdisciplinary practice
• experience in academic teaching
• excellent English and/or German language skills
• gender and discrimination critical competence

The teaching commitment includes lessons amounting to 16 hours per week.

The monthly gross salary according to the collective agreement for university employees in salary group A1 currently amounts to Euro 5.437,7.
